SIDEWALK VENDORS HAVE REAPPEARD - your help is needed to make them disappear again.
A recent court ruling did not completely overturn the vendor ordinance as reported in the Union Tribune. It does however limit how the city goes about enforcement, this mainly effects the enforcement in the Gas Lamp Quarter. City Council President Joe La Cava has issued the following statement.
"While this week’s court decision did not overturn the City’s Sidewalk Vending Ordinance, it resulted in some limits on enforcement. The Mayor and I agree that public safety is the number one priority. The City can and will enforce in District 1, including our beaches and shoreline parks.
When the City’s ordinance was adopted in 2022, I successfully secured the addition of boardwalks and high-traffic bike and walking pathways to the law – critical additions to protecting our coastal public spaces and the safety of residents and visitors – and I will take every available measure to ensure that our neighborhoods do not return to the “wild west” days of an unregulated market."
HOW YOU CAN HELP -
Send a Get It Done Report as often as you can. There is not a specific category, you report it under other.
Send emails to all nine city council offices, the city attorney's office and the mayor's office asking for enforcement. Your email should emphasize that side walk vendors in Mission Beach are blocking the public's access to the beach. Vendors take up park space that should be used by families and use at least one or more of the limited parking spaces at the beach. Vendors are destroying the grass in Mission Beach park. It took years and a lot of money to repair the damage it caused it years past. This is not just a Mission Beach issue. Vendors blocking access effects residents of all city council districts.
